First look inside ‘Charlie West,’ ODA’s Amtrak-straddling Hell’s Kitchen condo
It’s two 16-story buildings connected by an expansive interior courtyard

The ODA Architecture-designed condos rising above train tracks on the west side are now just a month away from launching sales on the building’s 123 apartments. In the lead up to the sales launch, developers, the Elad Group and Mi&Co have unveiled a teaser site for the project, and a new name—Charlie West.
Located at 505 West 43rd Street, the project is a block-through development that features two 16-story buildings connected by an expansive interior courtyard. The developers had to build a platform over the existing Amtrak railroad on the site to move forward with the condo.
The project is located between Tenth and Eleventh Avenues, and one of the towers will front on West 43rd Street and the other on West 44th Street. Apartments here will range in size from studios through four bedrooms, including penthouses with outdoor space.
Prices are expected to start in the $700,000s for studios, just under $2 million for two-bedrooms, and $2.8 million for three-bedrooms (the developers declined to provide starting prices on one-and-four bedroom units). And considering that price range, the condo project sure does seem to have an enviable list of amenities.
They include a double-height indoor pool, a two-story gym, a lobby that features a library and a fireplace, a children’s playroom, and a translucent glass-enclosed bike box (we’ll have to wait on the renderings to see what this is really like).
The project was first announced in September 2014 after Elad purchased the lot at 505 West 43rd Street for $43 million. Shortly after that, ODA was announced as the architect and Andres Escobar was picked for the interiors. The first exterior renderings came out in March 2015, and now this is the first inside look at the condo.
Sales will get underway in June, and closings are expected to take place towards the end of 2018. Cantor-Pecorella is handling sales and marketing on the project.
When asked about the name of the development, a representative for the developer had this to say:
“The name takes a page from the hotel & hospitality world, giving the property a personality. This is a fun and youthful building and we wanted the name to reflect that. The “West” is inspired by the westside location of Hell’s Kitchen.”
